How Modern Technology Helps us With Our Education

Posted by Rahul Gupta
Tablets, e-books, smart watches, personalization of education, online learning – these and similar terms are overabundant in the vocabulary of an average modern schoolteacher. Some of these techniques and equipment have already become part of the educational process; others are still on their way to entering general education.
Modern Technology Helps Us With Our Education
In today’s article, we are bringing you a list of TOP 10 examples of modern technology in education that helps our children with their studies.

School Gadgets

1. Movable gadgets, for example, smartwatches, fitness trackers or Google Glass, are highly useful devices in the education domain. Teachers who opt for activity-based learning make use of such functions during class as pulse, pressure and speed measurement.

Virtual reality headsets, thanks to the technology of augmented reality, help visually combine "virtual" knowledge and the real world increasing interest in studies.

2. BYOD - Bring your own device. This is new technology in education. Given the proliferation of smartphones and tablets among schoolchildren, it is now as natural to take a gadget to school as a pen or a notebook.

According to recent research, employees, who have modern devices at home, expect no less modernized tech at their workplace. The same can be said about schoolchildren: if a school cannot offer students equipment that they have at home, they will bring their own gadgets.

3. Mobile learning. According to Statista, by 2019, the market for mobile devices is expected to reach 5 billion users (this means that every second person on the planet will have a smartphone). As for learning segment, mobile applications with educational content currently occupy the second place regarding the number of downloads in iTunes.

This means that, firstly, users really want to get knowledge, and secondly – that they decide when and where to learn. Mobile learning is now changing traditional "localized" school learning. Speaking of mobility, students can now search for help me write my research paper and get academic help regardless of where they find themselves at the moment.

Online interaction in the classroom

4. Cloud technology. More and more schools in the world use cloud storages, such as Google Classroom, Moodle, and Blackboard. It is equally convenient for teachers and students to have access to an educational platform anywhere and at any time, which proves the importance of technology in education.

5. Social networks, once being a place to publish photos and status updates, have long become a working tool for exchange of information and distance interaction. Gradually they are made use of at schools.

6. Openness and transparency. As for the use of technology in education, electronic grade books, e-learning tools, and online courses allow more participants in learning process not only to have constant access to information but, also personalize learning process itself.

7. 3D printing technology has become a missing link, which clearly combines digital information with real objects that you can touch with your own hands. According to analysts, in 4-5 years, 3D printers will become widespread in the learning sector. Even today, some technologically-advanced schools, use engineering and laboratory technologies and devices that are offered, for example, by littleBits and EdTechTitans.

Pedagogical technologies that fulfill individual educational needs of students

8. Blended learning is no longer a novelty, but it is still not used in all schools today, which is a pity. Nevertheless, this technology managed to prove its effectiveness for the individualization of learning and increasing independence of students. Due to the transfer of the "routine" part to electronic format, a teacher gets more time to organize a productive, research-based and creative activity for students.

9. Distance learning has long been known and popular in the business environment and higher education as well. However, the widespread use of distance learning technologies and active expansion of e-learning into schools have become noticeable over the past few years.

Online courses, simulators, tools for their creation and publication, LMS-systems that provide not only educational content but also means of organizing the learning process with a wide range of special tools, are becoming more and more demanded.

10. Gamification (active learning activities through the use of game elements) allows students to memorize up to 90% of the information received. This technology is used not only at school but in kindergartens, as small children are particularly keen on games.

Technical and technological innovations have already transformed our everyday life and business processes. When we hear that a new gadget is going to be released, we can easily abandon the less perfect solutions and move to new ones in a day or two.

The school should be more selective in choosing new devices and tech, conducting research and approbation to mix modern technology and education properly. Knowing about all the opportunities offered by the technological world, schools and teachers are looking for something that will change the quality of educational process making it a lot more modern.
